Due to unforeseen circumstance, I chose.. no, that’s a lie, I was forced to go makeup free. Basically, I had a serious reaction to something and because I use like a zillion products, I had no idea what was causing it so I had to cut out everything. It was not ideal, but there were some definite benefits and it has inspired me to write (and think of) 10 reasons to go makeup free.
10 Reasons to go Makeup Free.
Amazing Skin: I want amazing skin. There, I said it. I love the look of natural, healthy glowing skin and sometimes, makeup just does the complete opposite for me. Having a break from makeup gave my face a chance to detox, get some sunshine and to breathe 24/7. I have to admit, it did it wonders and it was like starting fresh with a blank canvas.
Focus on trouble areas: Yes, I am still talking about skincare. Makeup can cover up a lot of stuff, which is great sometimes but not wearing makeup gave me a chance to actually see what my face was upto. Seems I have a LOT of premature ageing. Great, lucky me. Time to crack into those anti-aging products (let me know if you have any recommendations)
Makeup is a treat: When you do makeup every single day (which isn’t actually something I do, because I am too lazy but still), it loses being special and using it almost becomes a ho hum of everyday life. When I finally started using makeup, every product felt so luxurious and special.
The moment of realisation: When you don’t use makeup every day, you realise you probably don’t need 10 nude lipsticks and 14 mauve blushes. Truth hurts but you realise your makeup collection is far more than you need or could ever use.
Small pleasures in life: Yes, you can rub your eyes without turning into a panda. You can talk on the phone without getting makeup all over it. You can drink your water without getting that gross lipstick ring. You can wear sunglasses without getting the annoying mark on your nose.
Sweet Dreams: I can not be the only one who hates taking their makeup off at night. It is a chore (although I am working on changing the frame of mind). I loved being able to quickly refresh my face before jumping into bed. Talk about a time saver
Sleep in’s: Bet you didn’t know that I can spend an extra 30minutes in bed if I skip my morning makeup routine. I mean, yes it does mean I am walking around like a character from the living dead all day, but I love sleeping so maybe it’s kind of worth it
It saves you money: When I stopped wearing makeup, I also stopped buying makeup and I kid you not, I saved $2,000. Let’s just take a moment to think of all the new makeup I can now afford, haha kidding. Or am I.
You don’t have to wash your makeup brushes: enough said.
Confidence: I love wearing makeup, I am not going to lie. Ffs, I have a beauty blog. Clearly, I enjoy this stuff, but I don’t need it. I don’t have to wear it to feel like a babe or to be confident in my natural skin and that’s a nice feeling.
And there you have it, 1o reasons 10 go makeup free (even if I had to scrape the barrel for some of them haha). Happy Wednesday!
